For loose items, scale is determined by the average size of an action figure from a given toy line. Action figures from some toy lines and action figures with large accessories are considered custom. AFA provides a good-faith effort to spot reproduction weapons and accessories, but doesn't guarantee authenticity beyond a reasonable doubt, unless GAS tiers are used for authentication.
AFA does have policies in place to protect our customers, as outlined below.
A loose figure submitted for grading will have its weapons and accessories looked at to see if they are obvious reproductions. The grader will make a good-faith effort to check the authenticity of a figure's weapons or accessories. If a reproduction accessory (or incorrect accessory) ends up paired and graded with a figure, the figure can be resubmitted to AFA for re-casing. Once it is confirmed that the accessory is a reproduction or incorrect, AFA will provide an authentic or correct accessory up to $25 in value, as well as the re-case free of charge. If the value of the weapon or accessory is more than $25, a check in the amount of $25 will be issued to the customer in order to offset the cost of purchasing an accessory. In addition, re-casing with the updated accessory will be completed free of charge.
